digital layers

"Family Tree"
We are well into Week 3 of Digital Layers with Susan Tuttle.
So, here I am, finished with my version of Project 2, with a little more family layering.
Project 2 was all about colorizing a figure.  Well, I colorized three!
I felt like I did when I was a little girl painting with my watercolors.
I painted their clothes, cheeks, lips and eyes with a soft brush.
When I finished, I thought it could use a bit more depth, so I scanned one of uncle Eldie's school diplomas to add as another layer. I love this part of the picture!
The original picture was taken most likely in early 1921, and is of my aunt Lorena, uncles Eldie and Edmund.  My dad isn't in the picture because he was born 13 years after my uncle Eldie, who is the baby sitting on the wicker rocker.

This class is taking me past the place I was before (in Photoshop).
Just as I expected.
Thank you Susan!
You can see more pictures from class here.

LOVE this! MAYBE after my digital class at Paper Cowgirls I will be better at using my Photoshop Program! Is there nothing you don't perfect? Your work is amazing sweet friend. I looked at some of the others listed on Flicker & your choice of begining photos are fabulous. Then you create magic. You have an eye for this for sure. HUGS!

Oh, those are so yummy, Diane. This must be fascinating. How did you first start to learn about Photoshop? Like...ground zero...grade one?

Hugs,
Suz

So beautiful ... I have many old family photographs and I am thinking of trying something of this sort and making a little book, as a gift to other family members. A good Christmas project if I get started now. Hahaha - like that would ever happen in my disorganized, procrastination driven life. :-)

Wonderful job my friend! Your colorizing is lovely as well as your fabulous family photo!!
Soon, you'll be able to create your own goodies in PS, you're getting so good at it.
Have fun playing & have a glorious weekend...
Smiles,
Susie

I'm so impressed. I didn't take this class, feeling I was just not up to it. Wish I had given it a try.

There just isn't enough time in a day. There is so many exciting things to learn. I can't believe my thirst for knowledge would be in full force after the age of 50. Your blog is inspiring and beautiful.

Krys - I agree with you 100% - I am about to hit 60 (!) and there are so many things I want to explore. :-)

Diane, you are jumping light years ahead in with your PS skills. It is truly amazing what you are doing now. I just love this sweet family picture. What a big age gap then between your Dad and his older brother - who is such a cute, smiling baby in the wicker chair! I love the soft, pastel colors you added and the Austin diploma make it even more special. This is just incredible.

Fabulous!!! How very inspiring! This is what I want to do and then transfer them to 12x12 canvas so that I can always see my family from various generations.
