It's All About the Link

Today is my day
to give a shout out to a great friend,
Cindy Wimmer's new book,
and is the next stop on
the Book Blog Tour
that began on Tuesday.
Yeee....haw, welcome to Texas!
It's hard to believe that it has actually been way more than a year since
Cindy asked me to be a part of the design team for her upcoming book.
How could I resist,
as everything Cindy does it so meticulously wonderful
and top notch!
Her wire work is drop dead gorgeous,
which you will certainly see for yourself, once you get your very own copy.
But...
if you haven't ordered yours yet
I'd be so thrilled if you'd leave a comment here
as the publisher, Interweave
will be giving away a copy of Cindy's book from each of the
blog hop stops.
This means you have 6 chances to win!
I have to tell you I felt a bit intimidated at first,
as wire links are not my main focus when designing jewelry.
I can wire wrap myself out of a barrel~blindfolded...
(well maybe not blindfolded)
...links...
well, that's another story.
But, if you know me at all, you know
I always love a good challenge.
So, this is how it began....
Cindy gave me, along with all the team designers,
the option to pick two of our favorite links out of the 30 she showcases in the book.
With these links, we were to design a piece of jewelry.
I chose two I thought would fit into my "style",
which was
Double Infinity
and
Little Orbits
Green with Infinity
Found on pages 128-131 in the book,
showcases the Double Infinity link.
This picture was taken just before it was sent off to Cindy & the publisher.
I am going to play a little game with those of you who already have the book,
or if not,
you can also look here
as pictures from the book (where you will see a picture of my necklace) scroll across the slider window seen in the middle of the page.
This will kind of be like the game, what do you see different in the picture!
There has been a slight change in the ultimate design of my necklace =)
Just leave an answer here on my blog,
in your comment,
and
I will also have a drawing from those who left an answer,
at the end of the hop.
The prize will be a (sur)prize!
So, please leave your email address so I can contact you on October 21st,
if I can't link back to you via your comment!
The next link I chose,
was
Little Orbits.
Amber Skies
showcases this link that Cindy places in the "easy" category.
This necklace, and how it's made,
can be found on pages 100-103 in the book.
Another fun project, using some super fun links.
Cindy really did a superb job writing this book.
And,
the links are quite unique and exciting to master.
Thanks so much for stopping by and joining in on the hop.
Today you can also visit
of Art Bead Scene.  She has joined us on the tour,
and this gives you yet another opportunity to win
Please hop on over to
Christine Damm's blog tomorrow
to see what she has to share with us
regarding her
"missing link" journey.
Before you go...
one last recap of all the blog hop stops:

October 17-Lori Anderson (Pretty Things)
October 18-Kerry Bogart (Kab's Concepts)

to see all the winners announced on
October 21st!

She will be giving away additional prizes:
a set of lampwork beads used in the book, wire, and her favorite coiling tool,
just to name a few.
So, that's all for now....have FUN on the tour,
and I'll see you back here on October 21st!

  6. Hi Diane
Hopped on over from Cindy's blog - first time visitor and I have to say that I love your site! I look forward to coming back. :)

  7. Really like your necklace in the book! I see on the right side a change of chain for rhinestone links.

  8. Instead of rhinestone chain on the one side, the book has the same links on both sides. Thanks for the inspirational designs.

  9. Diane, Congratulations on being included in Cindy's outstanding book.
I love the links you chose and how they became part of your signature designs. So...what did you do with the rhinestone chain that magically turned into double infinity links?! Secretly, I do like how the rhinestones and links complement each other. Amber Skies is truly a statement piece - the combination of metals, the stone colors and those little orbits - beautiful.
Ideas are floating in my head. Thank you!

  10. Wow, I love your style! That's a great take on a classic link.

  11. In looks like in the picture that in the book you used the links on both sides with maybe a few of the crystals in between, whereas in your picture here, you used all crystals (not sure if that's what you call them) on the left side(looking at straight at the picture, I think it would be the right side when on.) But it's gorgeous either way. I can't wait to get a copy of this book. I've been hopping all the blogs and am so excited at everything I've seen so far. Want to try them all. LOL

  12. Wow! I really like this necklace. I have to say that I like it better with both sides with the link, vs the rhinestones. That particular link is one of the first ones I want to try. Thanks for the opportunity to try and win a copy of the book.

  13. Oh Diane... You are so clever. I love the little game you set up! This is a great post. Both of your necklaces in the book are just beautiful and represent your work so well. I got to oggle them at ArtBliss which was a real treat!

  14. The one s the book has infinity links on both sides! I love these designs and would love to win this book!

  16. Hi Diane,

I just love the necklaces you created using Cindy's links. The difference (that I see) between the original necklace you made and how it appears in the book is in the chain. The rhinestone connectors(4) are used as links between Cindy's double infinity links instead of being linked together to make up one side or half of the chain. Both options are great. I would love to win this book and if I don't, I am definitely buying it. I think it is a must have! Thank you for this opportunity!

  17. Hi, Diane! Love your unique style of embellishing with vintage pieces, especially in this lovely necklace. Your update with the double rhinestone chain really adds some extra sparkle, too! This book blog hop has been a real treat this week.

  18. I especially love Amber Sky. The crystals look lovely on the link and I love how they are attached with the wire.r

  19. Both necklaces are gorgeous! The difference I see in Green with Infinity is, in the book the infinity link is used on both sides of the pendant and on your blog, you used the infinity link on one side and a rhinestone component,I believe a bracelet, on the other side. BTW, I'm a fellow Texan:-)

  20. Both versions of your necklace are beautiful! It looks like the chain is different on the necklace in the book because it has the same style chain all the way around with what appears to be figure 8 shaped links.

  21. wow you make some amazing jewelry! Totally beautiful! this blog hop is really getting my creative juices flowing!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Looking at your fabolous creations I'm sure this book is a must have!!! I'd love to win a copy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Your necklace is beautiful! I wish they kept the rhinestone/crystal bling part of the chain on one side of the necklace! But I guess they are showcasing the infinity links, which are great too! Thanks for being in the book and being part of the blog hop. I hope I win the book! It will be on my wish list otherwise!

  24. Diane, the Missing Link would not be complete without your beautiful pieces. You have a talent for adding such stunning vintage charm to everything you create. I remember when I first saw your Green with Infinity and Amber Skies necklaces, I was in awe. And so very thankful that you worked your magic with my humble wire links - talk about elevating them to a grand level! Thank you, Diane!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh, you've made it symmetrical in the end - I like it both ways. Both your pieces are amazing, as it seem to be the entire book. I'd love to win it - thank you for the opportunity.

  26. Wow....lovey Designs Miss Diane...the difference I can see is on the one on your blog their are no links on the left side if the necklace...and the right side their is a link close to the focal and not on the one on the blog....thanks so much for sharing you designs and your inspiration ... xox

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Miss Diane...your designs are amazing...the difference I can see is the one on the blog doesn't have the links on the left side...also the right side doesn't have the one link near the focal on the blog....thanks so much for sharing your inspirations ...xox

  29. Hi, you changed the rhinestone section with the infinity links.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The rhinestone chain on one side of the necklace is now infinity links. Your necklaces are lovely, Diane.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Love your necklace. How exciting to be a part of Cindy's wire book. It looks like you are missing some rhinestone links in the book version of your design, but I will say the symmetry of final design is also appealing.

    ReplyDelete
  32. What a great idea with your question about the design differences :)

In the book the left side of the necklace changes, the glas stones are gone and you repeat the wire links. I would love to see a bigger picture from your original design!

Thanks for the chance to win. I always love surprises :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. You now have rhinestones on one side. Both versions are gorgeous! You definitely did the links well in both of your pieces.

  34. Oops - I forgot - my e-mail is rmar261783@aol.com.

  35. Those are all gorgeous. I have been eyeing Cindy's book. It would be great to win one. :)

  36. Your original version has a double row of rhinestones serving as part of the chain; the picture in the book shows the chain composed completely of double infinity links. Although both are beautiful, I think I like the rhinestone version better. From what I've seen of the book it's outstanding and I would love to have a copy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The photos are different in that the one in the book is all double infinity links and your original photo is half done with a rhinestone chain. Both are lovely!

  41. Can't believe I'm the first person to leave a comment here? Irregardless, the photography of your work shown here definitely shows the detail you put into your work Diane... can't wait to see the entire book!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi Diane, love your work here and in the book... OK, the difference I see between the two pictures is that in one, you used a whole lot of rhinestone (?) links on one side of the necklace chain, and in the other photo, mostly wire infinity links for the chain part of the necklace...

    ReplyDelete
  43. The double infinity link is so beautiful.I'd love to know how to make it. Thank you for the opportunity, Ana

  50. Just got my copy and can't wait to learn a few new tricks! I love your rustically elegant style, Miss Diane. I think that there are more of the links in the one with the rhinestones, if I am not mistaken. I love the way these can liven up any style design. Congratulations on being part of this book! Enjoy the day. Erin

  52. I hope I'm not too late to enter your drawing...I think I've left my answer in the wrong place. I found this spot after the fact. Anyway the necklace is GORGEOUS!! What's different is that you changed the chain to infinity links all the way around AND I love it!!
